6 ways to better your financial goals

Everyone likes getting paid and having money but how many people know how to manage that money once they get it. Not a lot for sure, and that’s why a lot of people live from paycheck to paycheck. Sometimes we don’t get paid enough or the bills just don’t give us a break to try and break the chain of living from paycheck to paycheck.  But here’s a short list on how to better your financial goals…

1. Stop Ordering out

Ordering food is a pocket killer. Once you’ve ordered your meal, your not just paying for the food your also paying tax, delivery fees and tip. By the time you’ve finished your spending. You’ve just spent a weekly bus/train fare for work on one plate of food, which is just ridiculous if you think about it. I get that sometimes having to come home after work and cook can be tiresome. But if your really serious about your financial goals that’s really important to cut out . Also try meal prepping for the week instead of buying lunch outside.

2.Avoid Shopping to better your financial goals

You don’t need a new phone each time one comes out, or the latest sneakers your just wasting money. All iPhones gets the same iOS update once a new phone is out. Once your clothes fits and your phone works you don’t need a new anything, you might want something but you don’t need it. You can buy everything you want once you’ve accomplish all your big goals and better your finance. Even then still try not to waist money.

3.Cancel Subscriptions

Sometimes you download an app that has a week free trail and forget to cancel it. Next thing you know it’s been about four months and you’ve almost paid over $50 dollars on something you don’t use. Sometimes you have a workout app, first month your doing great then you drop off for two months just cancel it. So please go into your settings find your subscriptions and cancel the things your not using because it’s costing money.

4.Cable

You pay around $160 dollars or more a month just to watch six channels a week it sounds stupid right because it is. Get Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu or just something cheaper. You already have the weather and news app on your phone. All that’s missing is a few shows, but lets not pay $160 or more for that when we have bigger things to accomplish. For crying out loud most kids watch YouTube anyway.

5.Pay off your Debts

We all have them, School loans, personal loans, credit cards you name it. Start paying them off it will better your financial goals. But first you need a payment strategy so things don’t get messy and your managing your money the right way. We have the snowball method vs Avalanche method choose one and stick to it.

I’ve tried the snowball method before. Where you make the minimum payments on all accounts, except the account with lowest balance and so on. I like that method but I didn’t love it. Right now I’m trying the avalanche method and I’ll let you know how that goes once I’m finish. ( I’ll explain the difference in another post)

6.Emergency Fund

We all need one. Sometimes life happens and when that time comes you want to be prepared. Meaning something happened where you lost your job, car broke down, or whatever the problem is. You want to have an emergency fund. You can open an account online where your able to manage your money or just use a shoe box at home.

Each time you get paid take out $50 or whatever your budget allows you to save without being backed up on bills. Just put it aside pretend it’s not even there. But I highly recommend starting an emergency fund and have at least a $1000 in it. Aim for 6 months worth of expenses.

  1. Great advice! I never order out, I never spend money, so even though I’m not out of the woods yet, I’m trying to develop healthier financial habits.
